Music Meme

As smacked by [livejournal.com profile] returnofpiper

List five songs that you are currently digging ... it doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words or even if they're any good but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions, the artist and the song in your blog along with your five songs. Then tag five other people to see what they're listening to.

1."The Promise"- Tracy Chapman- I have always loved this song and found it angstily appropriate when I was writing A/O post "Loss"

2."Southern Cross"-CSNY- a reminder of good times when I was in highschool

3."Iowa"- Dar Williams- I saw her perform a couple years ago and fell in love with her work.

4."Sounds of Silence"-Simon & Garfunkle- just because, except I can't find my cd, so if any of you have it, I would like it back please. Now!

5."Canon in D"-Pachelbel-makes me want to drive 100 mph on a curvy road with my windows down and sun roof open. Naked.

I tag: all of you-anyone that feels like sharing whether you have already or not.

For that maybe [livejournal.com profile] heathers would restart her "picture of the day"...heh.

That just might do it, but I'd have to charge a "sitting" fee.

I need a musical intervention when Simon and Garfunkle is the only familiar name in the list.

I am a child of the 70's. CSNY=Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Pachelbel is my fave classical. Dar Williams is lesbian popular and is very talented, and Tracy Chapman has "A Fast Car" and "Give Me One Reason". Excellent CD.

Are you the one that has my S&G cd?

I've heard those two Tracy Chapman numbers.
S&G CD, nope. There's only so much I can take of them. I mostly need loud, thumping beats.

Lemme just flash my age at y'all: when I hear Pachelbel's Canon in D, I get the urge to run to the bathroom before the commercial ends. I affectionately refer to it as Pavlov's Canon in P.

Word on Tracy Chapman's The Promise!

Bwahahahaha.

Pachabel's Canon was my favorite song to play on my cello. Swear to god, it was like the most relaxing thing ever. Lurrrrrrrrrrve.

Also, Tracy Chapman is friggin amazing. I saw her live once and I swear it changed my life. Her music is just bottomless--you can't help falling into it. I was less than impressed with her latest offerings, I'm not sure if she'll ever out-do her first three albums.

I love playing the following on my drums:
Pink Floyd "The Wall", "Comfortably Numb"
ZZ Top "Tush"
Jimi Hendrix "All Along the Watchtower"
Alice in Chains "Man in a Box"

Oooh, all good songs. You win.

Dar!

I love and adore Dar. So much. And I love "Iowa." You have great taste. When you saw her perform, did she make the audience sing the chorus, or does she only do that with easily-taken-advantage-of college kids? Mmmm, "Iowa."

Take good care of your back!

When I saw her two years ago, she was doing an acoustic tour with Mary Chapin Carpenter, Shawn Colvin and Patty Griffin. All four of them sat on stage and told stories about the songs they had written and then sang them. For their final encore, they did an a capella version of Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way"...it rocked! I've been searching for a tour cd/dvd since.

And yes, we sang the chorus :)
