Pet 911

Mrs. CB and I just got back from the Pet ER where we had to admit Artemis for overnight care.

He hasn't been acting right since we started him on the kitty prozac Friday night. I took him in yesterday for another cortisone shot and the vet suggested we split the prozac dose into two daily doses. After I got him home, he just didn't act right. He didn't eat, he didn't try to get outside and he didn't want to be in his kitty stroller. We kept an eye on him, but when I woke up this morning his breathing was extremely labored.

He is in the pet hospital in "Kitty ICU"-basically they have him in a large oxygenated incubator-type enclosure while they continue to run tests. They mentioned "heart failure" and "pulmonary edema" just a few times too many for my comfort, but as we spoke with the vet and filled in his recent history, it began to look like a reaction to the injection. It's a case of symptomology not matching the clinical findings. Where is House when you need him?

So if you have a spare moment, good thoughts for Artie's health would be appreciated by Mrs. CB and myself. We are hoping to tranfer him to the regular vet's care tomorrow and have him home in a few days. Just waiting for the phone to ring with the CBC results...

Thinking of your baby. They'll figure it out and he'll be fine. He hasn't gotten much of the drug and they'll support him till it has cleared. Is he the one with the butt rash? Is that why the steroids? I am confident in that the vets will steer him through.

Yep, he was the one with the bad skin rash. The steroids helped, but always some risk to the immune system.
Thanks for the get well thoughts.
