So much for that vaccination

So Monday morning I get to work only to leave an hour later with fever and chills. Flu time. Even though I get a vaccination every year, they are never 100% on target for projected flu strains. And while H1N1 is all the rage, I think this more of a regular seasonal flu which is why it only had me down for a couple days instead of a week. Or so I thought. Got up Wed morning and went into work and they were all surprised to see me. I was feeling pretty damn good-tired as hell, but good enough to sit at my desk and make calls all day. Boss thought otherwise.

I work in a peds facility, and even though I work 2 blocks from the hospital and have NO patient interaction at all, we have a mandated policy regarding employees suspected of having a respiratory illness. 24 hours without a fever before you can return to work. I still had a lowgrade fever, and even though I had no cough, she sent me home. Don't know if it was becasue of concern for my health or for my co-workers, but maybe if she had done that with the co-worker who had the flu when I returned from NYC, I would not have gotten sick. Was already scheduled off today because I am supposed to work the weekend. Now that is in flux because I still have a fever. Have a doc appt tomorrow but only because I think the fever is coming from a secondary bacterial infection. If thats's the case, she can give me a note clearing me to return to work on Sat.

I am so damn tired and so fucking bored. I need another nap...

Oh Bud, I knew I shouldn't have Frenched you after licking that subway handrail.

I think your boss did the right thing in sending you home, though. Maybe she learned it's better to err on the side of caution.

I think you sound like you need a rest. It's okay to be sick, you know. Especially if you're going back too soon and spreading it around among other people.

I'd take the safe option and settle down on the couch with some dvds.

Or...not?

We have the same policy at work, for the same reason. Such dedicated employees. :)

/manager

I hope you enjoy the days off and all the naps, and that the fever turns out to be nothing.

I just can't hear the word ''flu'' whitout wanting to brake someone neck... I work in a Medical Clinic (Family Doctors+OB) and just the call we get from patient and people who come asking us question that we can't actually answer... Plus the Doc do not know exactly what to tell them (and us) 'cos the governement do not seem to know where they really stand. Plus let just say that the media are driving people crazy and scare them a lot.
GRRR I just don't want to hear about Flu anymore... I'm not geting any shot this year for the seasonal one are H1N1. I don't care if I work with patient... I just don't want to hear about it... The stupid thing is that ok, H1N1 is the priority... and I do understand that... but here, we are gonna get the seasonal shot just in January (if we do have it) so people who really need did will cop...

Ok... and of it... 'cos I want to have a break on this subject before work tommorow !

Btw, I wish that you'll feel better soon ! *hugs*
