cabenson: (Beautiful Mess)

All together now..."Mondays Suck!"

My niece had surgery to remove the tumor from her abdomen early this morning. They opened her up, looked, then closed her back up without removing anything. Simply too dangerous at this point, and my sister had asked them to try and save the reproductive organs. Even if the had decided against that tactic, they would have had to remove the bulk of her colon and bladder as well. And the risk of losing her was just too high.

So now she recovers from the exploratory surgery while the docs confer with other docs and try to come up with a plan.As much as I would hate to see anyone go through chemo and radiation, especially a child, I am now hoping that it will be an acceptable venue for her illness-just long enough to shrink the tumor down to a removable size.

At least when she gets home there will be a brand new "Popular" shirt for her from WICKED. She wants front row seats so she can " feel the actors' sweat". Yeah, she's a mess, just like her aunt.

And because I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop, the night before we left on vaca, my mom called to tell me that my aunt was just diagnosed with pleomorphic sarcoma- more common in children, very rare in adults and difficult to treat. She will either be treated here in Columbus or in Cleveland as our home town hospitals don't have the expertise.

And then those poor kids and faculty at VT and their families. Damn this world sucks sometimes. Thank goodness the tulips bloomed today- gave me something to smile about.

Oh, the poor kid. I'm still thinking of her; here's hoping there's a good response to the treatment and surgery becomes possible.

Know that both your niece and your aunt will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank goodness the tulips bloomed today- gave me something to smile about.

Amid sorrow and chaos, there always seems to be a sign of hope.
