Winter Wonderland
Dec. 23rd, 2004 11:33 amA few weeks ago,
theholyinnocent jokingly told me that God hated Ohio. I think she was right.
It started snowing about 7:00am yesterday morning. I had no problems getting into work- it was only raining at 4:40 am. The drive home, however, was atrocious. A trip that normally takes 20 minutes, took an hour and 15 minutes. Once I got home, the wife and I ate a warm meal and went out to try to clear the drive and sidewalks. About 8:00pm, it started to sleet. I went to bed with every intention of going to work, but when I woke up this morning...it was still spewing freezing rain. So I did something I have never done in the 14 years that I have been employed by Teh Hell Lab- I called off due to weather. We are still under a level 2 emergency which means don't go out unless you absolutely have to. Going to work when I start vaca tomorow...not so important. I later learned that we were under a level 3 (no travel or you'll be arrested) for a brief time, but it was downgraded to a level 2. I think that were it not for the airport, we would still be a level 3. No one wants to make the call that will strand thousands of travelers two days before Christmas.
So. Mrs CB and I ventured out to try and clean off the cars. It took 45 minutes before I had chipped enough ice away to even get the door open. We cleaned them off best we could and moved them as far up the drive as possible. Our neighbors have a tree that hangs low over our cars...and it is heavy with ice. We cleared and salted the walks (she cleared, I salted...I feel bad about not being able to shovel..really, I do) and had to help some dumbass that got stuck on our corner. Then we came in and ate leftovers...yummy.
I predict we will be staying in as long as I can make that final bottle of wine last all day. For those having a Green Christmas, I offer you:
( snow and ice )
