Seventies Child

It's been a very weird, yet newsworthy 24 hours here in Columbus. We apparently have had another string of shootings (following the Highway Sniper of 2003) and a suspect was arrested yesterday afternoon. Mayor COleman has decided to run for Governor and it is possible that he may find himself up against Jerry Springer. Yes, that Jerry Springer. And then one of the Ohio Supreme Court Justices was busted for DUI . (I dated the daughter of an Ohio Supreme Court Justice...it was kinda cool.) I laughed inappropriately when Justice Resnick told the State patrol that she always thought Troopers should be driving the Court members all over Ohio. Probably wasn't the best time to mention that there, Alice.

I also found my "notebook". This contains all the SVU notes I took while researching Teh Essay. It also had the beginning of a filk I wanted to finish. Heh heh...let the earworms commence.

And why does my "contemplative" kitty mood thing look like it's trying to bring up a hairball? I find it disturbing, yet oh so familiar.

I have to go back to work tomorrow after 11 days off. Due in part to the severe ice/snow storm right before Christmas, I accomplished very little. That's my excuse and I am sticking with it. I just went out to move my car-it hasn't even been started since Wed, Dec 22nd.

Today is the anniversary of my first day at Teh Hell Lab. 14 freaking years of my life. I can't really say that I hate my job, in fact, I love it. I love sitting at a microscope and looking for cytopathic effect. I love the puzzle of determining the virus/bacteria based on the clues the docs give us. I don't even mind the 4:00am wake up calls. What I don't like is how two members of our team are allowed to continue perpetuating a hostile work environment. I have been harassed on more thn one occasion because I am permanently on restricted duty. I would gladly give up being in pain every second of every day in order to be a full member of the department. But that isn't going to happen any time soon. Luckily, my boss (and her boss) have been very supportive. I hope things will change...but I have been there long enough to know better. So, the search for better employment begins anew.

My Buckeye gals won today. Sorry Purdue fans, but we were tired of your shit. Penn State- you had our C game...so just wait. I think OSU Women have a strong chance in the NCAA tourney. Mrs CB and I are already planning for March Madness.

I have been reading like a fiend this past week. DeMille, Crichton, DC comics ;). I am halfway through Michael Crichton's State of Fear. Eco-terrorism and other sciency stuff...reminds me a bit of Thor's Hammer by Ken Follett. And both were Christmas gifts.

I think I have my "Return of Alex" fic worked out in my head and I hope to start writing it tomorrow. For those that have been waiting for me to finish "Progression" and/or "Harlots", I will get to those after this. I was given a limited time frame when I got my early X-mas gift from DW and Co.

Did I ever mention that at one time I seriously considered becoming a nun? I think this is why I can't write smut. Maybe I am being punished because I have issues with authority, chastity and poverty (not necessarily in that order.)Or because I crushed out over the nuns as a youth (and last week.)

Yeah...I'm working on "Harlots". And packing a summer wardrobe for that one-way trip to Hell.

I am finishing up at work today when I get a phone call. From my mother. I looked at the calendar and realized that she is right on schedule. From the moment that she sang, "Ceee-Beee, it's your favorite mommeeeeee," I knew I was about to be charged with the task of finding The Elusive Christmas Gift. In her thought process, what can't be found in the mall back home MUST be available in Columbus. So it looks like I will be shopping for Christmas dishes this weekend. If I don't get "Harlots of Hudson Place" done by the holidays...blame my mom.

I inherited a number of traits from my mother: her ability to cook (home-made noodles are da bomb!), her quick temper, her colorful language, and her sense of humor. God help the poor sonofabitch that gets caught in the middle of this mother/daughter tag team.

Damn! Have any of you ever written a story and then had the author of another story contact you and say, "You're story was really good even though it contained a great deal of similarities to mine>" and list the similarities. I never even read her fic until today. Are there similarities? About the same amount as the ones who present Olivia as being raped (or is it rapped?)and then screwing Elliot and having octuplets but not before catching 18 serial rapists/killers, incuding the one that raped her to begin with.

Yes, we both wrote about Alex sitting in the ambulance. I wrote it because they showed her there, looking over the scene and you just wondered what was going through her mind.

Yes, we both wrote about glass in the hair. I wrote what I actually experienced when I shattered a windshield with my head (WEAR SEATBELTS PEOPLE!!)

Yes, we both wrote them as having been broken up and gettng back together after the explosion...actually, I just wrote them as having sex...they may not get back together before Alex gets shot because now I'm not happy...

This was the fifth version of this story and now I feel like some nine-grade plagerist.

Getting ready to crash...4:00am comes much to early anymore. Had a wonderful mini-SVU marathon Thurs & Fri. Linda's show was a success last night and we saw "Into The Woods" toay starring our buddies Stewart and Matt. Got the Kitchen done except for about 10 minutes of trim work and we'll pick out the counter top this week.

I am ready to start writing my fanfic...I've never written one before and I have shied away from writing altogether since high school.
