Just when I was starting to have fun...
Jan. 2nd, 2005 04:35 pmI have to go back to work tomorrow after 11 days off. Due in part to the severe ice/snow storm right before Christmas, I accomplished very little. That's my excuse and I am sticking with it. I just went out to move my car-it hasn't even been started since Wed, Dec 22nd.
Today is the anniversary of my first day at Teh Hell Lab. 14 freaking years of my life. I can't really say that I hate my job, in fact, I love it. I love sitting at a microscope and looking for cytopathic effect. I love the puzzle of determining the virus/bacteria based on the clues the docs give us. I don't even mind the 4:00am wake up calls. What I don't like is how two members of our team are allowed to continue perpetuating a hostile work environment. I have been harassed on more thn one occasion because I am permanently on restricted duty. I would gladly give up being in pain every second of every day in order to be a full member of the department. But that isn't going to happen any time soon. Luckily, my boss (and her boss) have been very supportive. I hope things will change...but I have been there long enough to know better. So, the search for better employment begins anew.
My Buckeye gals won today. Sorry Purdue fans, but we were tired of your shit. Penn State- you had our C game...so just wait. I think OSU Women have a strong chance in the NCAA tourney. Mrs CB and I are already planning for March Madness.
I have been reading like a fiend this past week. DeMille, Crichton, DC comics ;). I am halfway through Michael Crichton's State of Fear. Eco-terrorism and other sciency stuff...reminds me a bit of Thor's Hammer by Ken Follett. And both were Christmas gifts.
I think I have my "Return of Alex" fic worked out in my head and I hope to start writing it tomorrow. For those that have been waiting for me to finish "Progression" and/or "Harlots", I will get to those after this. I was given a limited time frame when I got my early X-mas gift from DW and Co.
That's it...thanks for letting me ramble.

Date: 2005-01-02 11:58 pm (UTC)::cracking knuckles:: You want I should kill them, boss? (I've seen the Godfather too many recently.) I'm bummed about going back to work too, but at least I don't have assholes like that to deal with. Grr.

Date: 2005-01-03 12:10 am (UTC)LOL. I am not at the murder-for-hire place yet, but when I am...TheHolyGuido will be called upon. All I have to due is mention Americans with Disability Act and a lawyer if it gets too bad. One of the assholes was demoted a year ago, so there is hope;)

Date: 2005-01-03 04:12 am (UTC)Aww, I live to demoralize and humiliate hostile co-workers such as these. CB, I'm not really smart enough to work in a job that requires a microscope. However, if I were and if I worked in Teh Hell Lab with you, I would perpetuate a perpetually uncomfortable situation for them and make them feel
vey
very
insignificant.
(This is one of my signature talents, or so I've been told.)

Date: 2005-01-03 06:40 pm (UTC)And you don't need to be smart to use a microscope...you just have to look like you are smart ;)

Date: 2005-01-03 09:55 pm (UTC)Good! I can use that in the asswit esteem-minimization exercises.
Looking smart is the only way I've ever gotten anywhere! (People are so shallow these days it usually works!) Yet, I am fairly certain a job involving a microscope is nowhere in my future. :-)

Date: 2005-01-03 05:00 pm (UTC)Heh, I imagine a multitude of A/O, Heeeere's Alex! fics flooding the internet before Feb. Not that that's a bad thing. :)
I hope your work day is pleasant and full of interesting diseases and creeping cruds (of the microscopic sort rather than the colleague sort).

Date: 2005-01-03 06:43 pm (UTC)And I broke a resolution. I called one of my co-workers a lazy, fucking bitch (not to her face because she wasn't there.:))Took all of being back for 30 minutes. I love my job!
