Have you ever been slammed by a straight-line wind? Me neither, but it almost happened last night. A little after 5:00pm, we got hammered with a storm. Sometimes when it storms really bad, our electric will flutter, but it usually stays on. Not this time. The electric went out right as my NBC4 news girlfriend was starting a report. Then I heard the pinging of hail. I decided to open the front door (we have a storm door that was locked in place) to see if I could get a picture of the hail, but, uh, things were blowing horizontally. Next thing I see is all the rain in the gutters blowing towards me. I mentioned putting the boys in the basement (I think Mrs. CB and I should start running monthly tornado drills) and then it all stopped. The lightning was so intense! Nine people were struck in Central Ohio last night-1 was playing golf, the other 8 were prisoners and guards playing softball. The golfer and one of the inmates died. People, please do NOT use metal sports equipment when the atmosphere is unstable!

The power was out for 3 hours-our neighbors' daughter arrived after the storm ended and said a large oak tree 3 blocks away had been uprooted and was blocking the main drag. After checking the house and cars for damage, Mrs. CB and I settled in the semi-darkness and read trashy tabloids. Is anyone else tired of seeing Lindsay Lohan everywhere? Raise your hands high. I thought so. I decided to hit the Ben and Jerry's because I did not want it to melt. "Chocolate Therapy" goes well with physical therapy. In fact, it goes well with everything and anything. If I were a doctor, I would prescribe it to you all. It is almost better than pain pills. Almost.

After the power came on, I started playing around with music on my PC. I have no problems admitting my tardness when it comes to MP3s and sending files, blah blah blah. But, with the help of Senor Cabernet, I was able to figure out how to use You Send It. AND, I found my Simon and Garfunkle CD- stop laughing!

It looks like we will have another afternoon heavy with storms. 16 days without rain and now we have severe storms every day. Better go over tornado procedures with the cats.

I received a call today from the Big Boss at work. He was filling me in on the personnel changes (new supervisor...oh my!) and other logistical stuff that has changed since I have been off. The 3rd shift team leader has resigned, and I admit, I am a little tempted to apply. I hate the idea of working nights again, but I will have more control over my own schedule and the money ain't bad. Best of all...a whole new set of bitches to deal with. Anyway, we had a nice convo and he joked about not having anyone to discuss the Tony Awards with. He also assured me they would work with my limitations when I do return. He is a cool guy and one of the few reasons I would want to stay there.

I also got my return to work date: Aug 1st. I hope this therapy allows me to go back stronger than I left.

Had a nasty line of storms come in with cloud-to-ground lightning and penny-sized hail. More trees uprooted by the winds. Calm and rainy now and I am enjoying it immensely. Mrs. CB is off to Kaleidescope (she's a volunteer) and is picking up Chinese on the way home. Yum!

ETA: For [livejournal.com profile] bluepoet- No Julio, but how about Cecelia ?
