cabenson: (Question of the day)

The wife is heading up to her family's this weekend leaving this poor gimpy girl to her own devices. Because I am unable to go see a movie, she is taking me to rent some DVD's this afternoon.

What movie(s) do you think I should rent?

Rockula
Bad 80's movie about a vampire who starts a band to impress his true love who is reincarnated every 22 years and then killed by a pirate with a rhinestone peg leg who hits her with a ham bone on Halloween. No, really. Not too likely to find it though, its a B movie from the 80s. but you could get lucky!

Cinema Paradiso
Has subtitles. It's about a little boy in a small town and what movies mean to him as he grows up. The changes in the town around him, and how when you go back somewhere you left a long time ago things are very different and still very much the same. Makes me cry.

The Forgotten
Julianne Moore = hott. Also? Cool plot. Not super scary horror movie like, but suspenseful. Aliens are cool. It's about a woman (JM) who's son died, and she thinks her son isn't really dead and something is making people (except her) "forget" him. Tres cool.

Monty Python: The Meaning of Life
My favorite Monty Python movie. A lot more twisted than The Holy Grail or any of the others, but seriously awesome. The first two skits are "The Miracle of Birth" and "The Miracle of Birth: The Third World". Not even a little PC, but funny as shit.

Hmmm...I shall think of more. What sorts of movies do you like? My tastes run to all areas, if you couldn't already tell that from the above.

Monty Python: The Meaning of Life
That is one of my all time faves. I used to go around singing the Condom song till my mom made me stop.

I like pretty much anything. Just depends on my mood. Mostly sci-fi, humor (especially parody and satire which the wife hates), adventure/drama. And sometimes, cartoon flicks.

Then I'd really recommend Rockula if you can find it and The Forgotten was pretty darn cool. Have you seen the movie Orgasmo? It was made by the south park people, and its about a Mormon kid (played by Trey Parker) out of high school or college who gets wrapped into staring in a cheesy porn as a superhero "Orgasmo". And they have to use a "stunt cock" and his sidekick is...wait for it...Choda Boy. Heh.

I've also heard good things about Cannibal: The Musical! also from Trey Parker, but I haven't seen it myself yet.

Have you seen Sideways yet, CB? It might make you miss Teh Pinot a lot, but it's a very satisfying little film.

The wife and I both want to see that so I'll need to wait until she'll be home.

And I reconnected with Mr. Pinot last night. Bliss :)

Well, let's see: I just bought Sideways, if you haven't seen it, it's quite entertaining. Have you seen Hotel Rwanda? quite eye-opening. The Station Agent is a wonderful little thing, (have a bit of a crush on Clarkson.)Team America is just out on DVD-- haha... there is a hilarious puppet sex scene in that one.
Have fun.

Team America is on my list. I have to watch that when Mrs. CB isn't around. She is not a fan of South Park or their creators.

Smart lady.

I do not care for south park either.

What are your thoughts on the somewhat whimsical, beautifully shot, wonderfully written, though a tad sappy film genre? If you like it, I recommend Big Fish. I loved that movie.

I also recommend Ace Ventura: Pet Detective(not When Nature Calls)

If you can find it, definitely rent "Freeway" sometime. It has Reese Witherspoon and Keifer Southerland in it. It's this hideously dark comedy. You'll laugh and cringe at the same time.

You have The Eye?
Which version?
Cinema Paradiso is good choice, IMO.

Lake Placid, of course. If only to see Mariska play ditzy backstabber for 10 minutes. LOL

You know Cinema Paradiso?!? Wow, not a lot of people know that movie 'round my parts...even though I'm one state west of you! *waves*

I have a full size movie poster of Cinema Paradiso in my living room. One of my favorite movies ever. Have you seen the original version, the newly released extended version, or both?

she doesn't watch porn, either...
no, she doesn't.
but if she happens to be in a hotel gift shop,
or is waiting for a flight at an airport newstand,
she might pick it up and just take a peek
she might...

Both.
I cried during the fire scene.
I love the movie so much I went on a Ennio Morricone search. That man, genius.
Mmm, maybe I'll watch it again this weekend.

My girlfriend has never seen it, and I've been planning on subjecting her to it, but we haven't found a time yet where she was in the right mood for a movie with subtitles. But oh is that ever an amazing movie. I cried during the fire a little, but the worst for me is when he gets back home and watches the film reel from Alfredo? Wow, bring on the waterworks.
I was a teaching assistant in the Theatre & Film department at a local university for three years, so I saw the movie several times in work (it was in the class for basic film studies, two or three sections a semester) and it still never fails to make me cry.
