Because I can put the "fun" in Dysfunction
Mar. 6th, 2009 05:10 pmGetting over a nasty cold-sinus infection-brochitis thingy just in time to enjoy some warmer than usual temps here. Almost 70 here today, tomorrow will be warmer which is nice because we have a ton of running around to do. And maybe the Home and Garden Show as well, depending on how me and Mrs. Shingles are feeling.
My pulmonologist sent me to one of her colleagues today and after almost 9 months, we think we know what is causing my shortness of breath and general asthma-type symptoms: Vocal Cord Dysfunction. It mimics asthma and a VCD attack is just as frightening as an asthma attack. I was really stunned when he mentioned this becasue I had never considered that it was my vocal cords causing the problem. Mom said she always thought I had a big mouth that would cause me trouble ;)
Anyway, a scope up my nose and down my throat will give us the answer and treatment will depend on if the cause is acid reflux, cord spasms or a combination of both. I may have to go to Speech Therapy (Shut it!) to learn breathing and vc relaxing techniques. I also my look into therapy for stress reduction as well. Mrs. Shingles said she might need to look into that as well ;)
On the Vitamin D Deficiency front, my doc thought of me when she was at a conference last week on VDD (again, Shut it!)and its relationship to Celiac Disease and MS. She said if I was game for trying a gluten-free diet, that she really thought it would do wonders for me. A dietician that works in an office on our floor has been discussing this with me as well and loaded me up with info on Gluten-Free diets. I think I will try it after I get completely over this sinusitis. My energy level is up, but my feet still hurt so I may have osteomalacia (kinda like rickets). Have to keep taking those supplements. And as a PSA, I'm gonna tell you, take 400-800 IU of Vit D daily, regardless of your climate, because you serioulsy don't want to get as low as I got. Seriously!
Mrs. Shingles brought home stuff for chili dogs and some beer! We have a big TV night:
6:00-8:00pm OSU Women in Big Ten Tourney
8:00-9:00pm TSCC
9:00-10:00pm I'll probably dose through Dollhouse
10:00-11:00 BSG
This is really the only night we set a goal to watch specific shows. And it has nothing to do with the fact that we are too old and tired to go out partying....except it does.
Okay that's it for now.
