One Step Closer
Jan. 23rd, 2009 09:55 pmIt has been a wild week in the "Let's Diagnose CB" game that has been going on since mid-July. Last Thursday I had the lung CT/angio to see if there was a clot, and there was none. There was NOTHING to give us any clues as to what is happening-no clots, no enlarged lymph nodes, no signs of Sarcoidosis (the top odds-getter in our contest at work). I have stumped my pulmonologist. She is sending me to someone at The Ohio State University Hospital for a second opinion. Can't wait.
Then something happened. Without getting into to much detail, I found myself in the ER on Wed afternoon. The situation that sent me there was a concern, but turned out to be a blessing( and easily taken care of). We had some lab work done that showed that I had become quite anemic (for you medicos out there, my hgb had dropped 4 grams in 3 months) AND I had a previously undiagnosed thyroid issue as well.
Why is this a blessing? Shortness of breath can be a symptom of some types of anemia. Maybe, just maybe, we can get to the bottom of all of this. And the weight gain? Yep, Hypothyroidism. Oprah, mah sistah, I feel your fat pain. I have been a human pin cushion the last few days.
So for now, we are trying to regulate the synthroid, taking iron supplements and waiting, waiting, waiting for the test results. I'm also taking bets on a Vitamin B-12 deficiency,
Wed was also my sweet boy Bruin's 7th birthday. We got him and his brothers a new cat perch that they have already covered in fur. Tomorrow we will give them all Birthday Tuna!!!!
Daddy #2 is making a great recovery and is now able to drive. That will take a load off my mom, but they have actually grown much closer in the last 6 weeks, so she will probably keep driving him around for a while.
In the fandom world, I have embraced "Big Bang Theory". I am thrilled with the returns of both "BSG" and "Lost"-these two shows have helped heal the part of my heart that the mess that is "Grey's Anatomy" broke two months ago. SVU will become Must See again in just a few short weeks...ah, Alex.
So much more to ramble on about, but so very little energy.
Hope you are all well.
