FemslashCon and IDF 2010
Jul. 19th, 2010 12:05 pmWow! What a weekend. Mrs CB left early Thurs AM , traveling to Chicago with her sis for a weekend of fun and Lilith Fair. She took pics of Courtyard Hounds as they performed and emailed them to me…too much fun!
And I actually had a long weekend with the house to myself. I spent about 15 hours on Friday, editing vids for IDF 2010. Really enjoyed the process and I was pleased with the final products. I have completed my 5-part Otalia vid series, and I revisited a couple of beloved, older fandoms. I have a LnO:SVU vid in the works. Hoping that will inspire me to write THAT fic…
Speaking of fic, I spent about 12 hours online with the FemslashCon on Saturday. I enjoyed lurking in several of the panels and was grateful for the opportunity to be a panelist in the Bad Girls and Law Enforcement panels. Those panels were quite lively and filled with very interesting peeps and discussions. I think the organizers (contrary to popular belief, I was not one of them) did a pretty decent job considering the vast realm of the femslash world and the insane logistics involved. Was it a perfect experience? No, and I think there is great room for improvement. I have seen some constructive criticism that I think will only make next year’s effort even better. Hopefully, I will be asked back as a panelist.
That said, I do think that the con itself took away from IDF as submissions and comments were way down from the previous two years. I had no time on Sat to read/watch anything because I was trying to catch/mod as many panels as I could. Maybe FSC and IDF should be two separate events, or then again, maybe a whole weekend? I hope people that have suggestion to improve the con experience for everyone will voice those thoughts. I am thinking that an anonymous poll/survey would be helpful in looking at what worked and what didn’t, in regards to organization, technical aspects, panel content and the panelists themselves. My one thought is that there should be a mod/facilitator for some of the bigger fandoms/genres so the panelists can focus on responding/interacting with the participants. And I know there is already talk of something other that PalTalk so that is already a step forward.
I would like to thank everyone that was involved, either as an organizer, panelist, or participant. It was great to reconnect with some of my old SVU and BG peeps. And it was my first ever con experience (rl or cyber) and me and my large lesbian, mistyping hands had a blast.
Okay, moving on, spent yesterday cleaning up so Mrs CB wouldn’t find the place a complete wreck when she got home this am. Got a good nap or two in, snuggled with the boys while it stormed, and searched out a story that involved Good Man Frank and the BJ of Dooooooom Now I am trying to fill the last 2 hours of work til I can go home and see my girl. She brought back candy AND a Courtyard Hounds teeshirt…..

Date: 2010-07-19 06:26 pm (UTC)You know, I hadn't thought of that. It's actually a good idea. At one point during the Xena panel when I was a little too interested in my wine, they all started talking about The Facts of Life...about which I know nothing except I cannot take seriously any show with someone named Tootie. I was tempted to scream "TOPIC, PEOPLE!" but didn't want to ruin everyone's fun. :)
It was great fun talking about BG again! Oh, MacMidget, how I miss thee.
Good Man Frank and the BJ of Dooooooom
Ewwwww...why are you bringing this up again? Did you read it? Did you have nightmares? Or a very special evening with Bruin, maybe?
