So this is Christmas...

cabensonFirst off, I don't know about this new update page. I just got Mrs. CB to where she could post on her own :(
Wow, it's been a crazy few weeks and it will only be crazier until 4:30 pm on Dec 28th when I begin a 5-day vaca. Mama CB acme down this past weekend and we took her and her brother, who is only 5 years older than me, to a very VERY pricey steakhouse. I won't tell how much I spent, but here's a hint-the appetizers were $50. Yeah, I'll be paying that one off for a while, but it was so damn worth it to be able to do something like that for my mom and uncle. I don't think anyone has ever allowed her to be so decadent when going out for a meal. And I get to be Favorite Kid for a while, so that's good too.
We have the tree up but not decorated. Our first "Christmas" will be here this Sunday as we host Mrs. CB's "people". I'm supposed to be cleaning out the fridge and freezer right now, but as you guessed, the wife isn't home yet :) I am not at all stressed about having the in-laws here, in fact I'm looking forward to it. Mrs. CB's mama called me the other night and said, "I have a $5 off coupon to ACE Hardware, what the hell do you want for Christmas?" Looks like I might be getting new screwdrivers!!111!!111! :)
I am more concerned with the gathering that will take place NEXT weekend. Daddy#1 really wants all of us kids to get together this year and tasked me with the job of organizing it all. Fine, I am having D#1, Stepmom, Bro, Sis, BIL #3 and 3 of their brood here on Sat, the 23rd. I spent 4 weeks trying to organize a date and couldn't get my sister to contact me. She lives in Kentucky-I'm sure they have phones there by now-and when we finally connected, we agreed that they would come up early on the 23rd, have Christmas with one side of the family,stay over here one night, we would travel to Mom's on 24th, and then she and her family could leave to get back to KY for Midnight services (BIL#3 is a Marine who sings at their church). So as a good hostess, I call all parties to confirm these plans only to find out that Sis is coming a day early and is not going to Mom's because BIL#3 has to sing on the morning of the 24th. She hadn't bothered to call and let us know they had changed everything, and she hadn't called my om to tell her that they wouldn't be home on the 24th after all. I had to force her to call my mom and tell her. Then I told her she could come on Friday but not till after 5:00 because some of us have to WORK! She just assumed I'd be able to take the day off. Give me a gun now!
In case you can't tell, I really don't care for my sister. She is the mother of my favorite kids, but in all honesty, I just don't like her...and I never have. She has made a lot of mistakes in her life...BIG mistakes that have left the rest of us unable to trust her, no matter how much we want to. She has hurt my parents, stolen from them, stolen from me, used her kids as leverage to get money, and while she admits that she isn't perfect, she still refuses to own up to her responsibility for her own actions. It just makes for a tense gathering whenever we get together, and I wish she still lived in NC. We need to have a few buffer states between us. She makes me mad, but mostly she makes me sad, because I'm only a year and a day older and we could have had a much closer relationship if she weren't such a self-centered, inconsiderate twat.
Anyway, after we see them all off next Sat, Mrs. CB and I will relax until Sunday afternoon when we drive up to my Mom's for a quick holiday gift exchange and then dinner at Daddy#2's brother's house. We are driving back to Columbus that night and will wake up in our own bed, surrounded by the four furry and one scabby bastards and will spend Xmas day in total relaxation. I will be watching the Xmas gift Mrs. CB had me order for myself, (Superman's Ultimate DVD Collection) and drinking wine all the while wearing my pink sock-monkey jammies. I can't wait until Christmas...it's just the week before I have to survive ;)
