Jun. 24th, 2006 06:34 pmSo I caved and went to the Pride Parade with Mrs. CB today. I have been in Cowtown for almost 20 years and I have NEVER been to the Pride Parade. It was a beautiful day with low heat and humidity so, basically, I had no excuse not to go. And sunburn withstanding, I'm glad I went.
Before I begin my tale, a short announcement: If you are a protester (and I know that you are, trust me), don't ask me, in my Gay Pride shirt, for directions to the festival. I hope you enjoyed your afternoon wandering though Berliner Park. Whoops, was that the wrong park? My bad.
I found a cool place in the shade and claimed it as my parade spot. I was content with being by myself, drinking my Gator-Ade, minding my own business until some woman came and sat by me. She started asking me questions and proceeded to move closer with each answer I gave until she was practicaly sitting on my lap. I decided to call
artskat to see if she was coming down and lo and behold she was about 300 yrds from me. I met up with her, much to the disappointment of my new friend, and bought a few trinkets. Then I headed off to watch the parade.

This year's Grand Marshals were OSU President Dr. Karen Holbrook and Ryan Somethingorother, the first openly gay Student Body President.

No parade is complete without the Drag Queens. This lady was tired after walking so far in those shoes. She did have some sturdy bodyguards though.

I fell in love with a Roller Derby Queen...Columbus Roller Girls

Capital Pride Marching Band

Mrs. CB doing her Nixon impersonation

And it's nice to see the lesbians being represented. And my "Slammers" Bar Tab is NEVER that low...
I am bummed that I didn't stay long enough to see the "Flaggots", a fag flag troupe. We did catch a couple tunes by the Women's Chorus and a few dances by Teh Belly Dancer Girls. Not as much boobage on display as I had been told to expect, but the mullets were out in full force. I tried to take pics, but my camera has a "No Mullets" filter. Sorry,
theholyinnocent, I know you are looking for kindred spirits.
All and all a good day. We got the boys a rainbow catnip-filled pillow and they are now sleeping off their highs. I am pink and crispy and not in a good way. Gonna go make some drinks, you all be goood now.
ETA I forgot to mention something pretty important. Imagine my surprise when I was walking through the booths and there was a one representing my new employer. How fucking cool!
