Last week was an ugly week at the MH board and this discussion spawned my new icon. Thank you
lostingeekdom for the icon and
ultraviolet730 for the discussion. I am not sure why I always want to call you "ultraviolent" ;)

Date: 2005-07-28 06:05 pm (UTC)pain medsleave for too long, but responsible workers do not burst into hysterics on a regular basis without attracting attention!Actually, thank lucifer my office is so low-key. I can peruse TWoP and howl at the MH boards at will. But I suppose I should try to keep the hysterics to a minimum.

I can't imagine. Unless my calm, serene, rational demeanor hasn't fooled you at all and you can see right through that computer screen into my cold, dark heart...

Date: 2005-07-28 06:32 pm (UTC)This is not about racism or bigotry. This is about intolerance.
...Because intolerance has no part in racism and bigotry.
I didn't say "intolerance of homophobia", I said "intolerance of homophobes". The difference being that homophobia is an action, but a homophobe is a person. Be intolerant of the action, but don't be intolerant of the person. Same as what you would want for yourself.
I do NOT want people poo-pooing my thoughts and actions but embracing me "as a person". What is their left of you without what you think and do? Maybe it's just me.
If you don't like the words, express yourself in a way that doesn't bash the person you're disagreeing with.
If I have angry words about a rape, am I wrong to call him a "rapist", since that's not what he "did" but who is "is"? Am I wrong to bring up that he's a priest--who tarnished his office, abused and violated the trust of his parish, and mocked God as part of his crime, or is that too much "about the person"? Is it fair to mention he's a man? Or did that nothing to do with "what he did" and not "who he is"?
If, as she writes, all this is a matter of logic and manners, there is no difference between my example and hers. It would be different if there were a certain basic standard of behavior in all human beings; then I could see the "as a person" argument. There may be such a thing (I think there is.) Unfortunately, we cannot depend on all people not being bigots.
If you don't like the person, ignore them.
That's a brave, empowering strategy. Create such a state of denial that you don't even acknowledge there's a person who might "do" things to harm you.
I can already see that I'll be labeled a "gay hater" or "defender of the stupid". Oh well. Won't be the first time I get labeled for sticking up for folks that don't agree with the vocal majority.
Interesting. In my (lesbian, educated) experience, the vocal majority are both gay-hating and stupid. *shrug*
Had to.

Date: 2005-07-28 09:40 pm (UTC)I wasn't sure what image to use for the icon, so I googled 'anti-gay'. Quite an eye opener. And how scary is that. There were many choice hate messages, but this one beat them all in the simplicity and power of its all encompassing bigotry and hatred. I'd like Katrose to tell me exactly how we are supposed to be understanding and tolerant of this message. I thought God, any God, be it Hindu, Muslim or Christian, was supposed to be all about love.
Oh, and in other news, Cal has taken her pontificating to new heights. Check this out. Who appointed her as the PC watchdog of the world? One more rant from her, and I might just lose my temper enough to tell her to shut the fuck up.

It's like arguing with a retarded dog. In the end, you can walk away but they'll have nothing better to do that lick their balls and eat their own shit.
Somehow, I feel that analogy worked better in my head...
I should just make a 'Blow Me' memorandum to the whole lot of em.
