The phone rang earlier today and I knew, just from listening to the way Mrs. CB was talking, that the news was not good. Her 86-year old grandmother, out running errands with my MIL, was standing by the car. Grandma Loyal stopped at the car door and told my MIL, "Something's happening, something's happening," and collapsed. MIL is a nurse and she knew immediately that Grandma was gone. Seconds past and a flame is extinguished. Mrs. CB is upset, not so much for her grandmother, as for her mother. Grandma Rita (also 86)is still kicking and I encourage Mrs. CB to talk with and visit her as often as possible.

When my grandmother passed away, just weeks before I met Mrs. CB, I was devastated. Not only was she was my last grandparent, but she was the last "connection" to my maternal grandmother(they lived in the same small town), who meant the absolute world to me. Little did I know that I would be introduced to my biological father and find one last grandparent remained.

There will be no funeral or mass as Grandma Loyal feared being buried and had no religious affiliation. It looks as though we'll be heading home this weekend for a memorial dinner with the family.

I can't believe I have never written about my grandma. I need to work on that.

Warm thoughts for both of you. Lost my own great grandmother last week, had only just met her (insert long adoption-related story here). And... hugs, even though I hardly know you.

Aw, crap. I'm sorry to hear this. The only good thing is, she went quickly. Hugs for Mrs. CB. I hope she & her mom are doing okay.
