Three months ago, I applied for an in-house supervisor position over our specimen accessioning area. It would involve a 12-hour change in shift, but the money would be good. Only problem is, the manager that is supposed to be scheduling the interviews has been out of the lab for about half that time period. He managed to arrange an interview (at 4:00 in the AM, no less) and I interviewed with the HR dude...four freaking weeks later. This is an important position...for an important department. These people have had no one to go to about problems, training, or even scheduling vaca since the beginning of June.

Two weeks ago, I popped into his office and asked how close they were to making a decision. He said, and I quote, "Oh yeah...I probably need to get that taken care of." Can you all say, FLAKE?! So I talked to Mrs. CB and we set a deadline. The deadline has come and after finally getting the Mrs. to admit that she doesn't really want me to work late at night, I went in today and pulled my application. The poor HR guy.

HR dude: Did XXXX talk to you about this?
Me: I asked two weeks ago...nothing since then.
HR dude: And he wonders why I can't get his open positions filled.

So....a big sigh of relief and a continued search for a different job. I did just apply for a Teacher's Assistant at a local college. Keep your fingers crossed.

And it's not that I hate my current job...actually, I love it. I am just tired of dealing with "Non-leaders" who have leadership positions and refuse to accept the evolutions our lab is going through. And do nothing to solve the problems except sit on their fat asses and bitch. Hostile work environment, indeed!

I guess not wanting to work nights was a big part of my decision...that and keeping the old lady smiling.
