Theater IS Science!
Aug. 7th, 2004 08:36 amI cannot get over the weather!! We went to see "A Comedy of Errors" at Schiller Park last night and it was such a beautiful evening. And the play rocked. Really. I'm not a huge WS fan, but I do enjoy the comedies. A friend of ours directed this show and changed the setting to 1930's Appalachia...it was very well done.
We met up with some other friends at the park for a picnic before the play. Now, I should give you a little background. Almost everyone I know is somehow associated with community theater here in Columbus, including Mrs. CB. I have not done a play since grade school (not counting the chorus/background that everyone played in our high school musical), but I met my friend Beth about 8 years ago and have slowly been drawn into the fold. In fact, I met Mrs. CB at Beth's Halloween party 5 years ago. I get teased a bit because I am a science nerd, but they still let me play with them.
Anyway, next month is the 2nd Columbus National GLBT Theater Festival.Beth is directing a show called "The PuppetQueers present 'Innuendo'". (The last show was 'Hands Up Our Bottoms')
That's right, kids...it's a big ole gay puppet show with parody songs and life-size puppets.. The LAST show had a cat puppet that was in part, inspired by my late cat, Blue (who got mad when I went on dates and peed on me in revenge). Last night, Beth told me that I had inspired a new puppet this year....wait for it..."Black-n-Decker Dyke". Go me and my tool belt of power and inspiration. I think she said the song was to "Just the Way You Are," but I was laughing too hard to hear properly. She said it is a song about a lesbian who is NOT tool-aware and the puppet will have a bolt sticking out of it's head. Too fucking much fun.
I also wrote a song for the show, but I won't know until tomorrow if we'll use it. It's about the cancellation and final ep of "Xena;Warrior Princess" to the Beatles "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds". We call it "Lucy on the TV With Breastplates."
Okay, enough computer fun. This Black-n-Decker dyke need to finish the bathroom trim before picking up the Mrs. from her last grad school class (whoo-ho!).
Later!
