So last week I had to get bifocals. Uhm, yeah! I have been able to talk the doc out of them for the past 5 years, but I have a new not-as-sexy eye doc and she wasn't budging. This sucked on more than one level because I had bet Mrs CB dinner that I would get out of them again! She gloated all weekend. So anyway, I found a decent pair of frames - Ted Baker Houdini's and opted for the Progressive "no-lines" bifocals. Picked them up on Friday and have been slowly getting used to them. Mrs CB says they make my eyes "pop" so we'll see...

Yesterday we went to see "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". I have to say, as much as I love my HP, I thought the movie was the worst in the bunch. I thought the same about the book, so I shouldn't have been surprised. I am looking forward to the last 2 flicks cause I LOVED that book.

After the movie, we had brunch. I was treated to the most lucious boobage ever from the table across from me. Mrs. CB had to keep poking me to get my attention. And then she said, "Oh, I forgot to tell you something." Now 90% of the time, this usually leads to some type of benign revelation that doesn't really affect me, so I was not overly concerned. This was not one of those times. Apparently, she and her 2 siblings had drunk-planned a spring break vacation for the ENTIRE family for next year at Myrtle Beach. My response: No! Fucking! Way! I love Mrs CB's family, but I could not do 1 week in a confined space with MY family let alone hers. I'm not sure THEY can spend a week together without bloodshed-there was already talk of offing a sister-in-law. There will be itineraries, and meals planned and AGHHHH!!! Fair warning to the elders I will see in NYC- I am not an itinerary/meals planned/set schedule person. I am old and need lots of naps and lots of afternoon drinks, and lots of massages from pretty hotel peoples.

Luckily, Mrs CB had pretty much told them not to expect me to attend. It is an 8-hour drive and that would kill my back and I don't get as much time off as I used to at the Hell Lab. And one of those precious weeks will be spent at Virginia Beach in June when my niece graduates. So for now, I will be tending the boys and the strippers of Columbus that week.

Gotta go grab a shower and head out to run some errands that we didn't do yesterday because we drank at brunch and needed naps.

Yes, an entire week with siblings sounds fun to me. We will have a pool right outside the front door, a fact that CB didn't know until my sis sent the pics from last time she and hubby went.

In honesty, though, we have had several illness and stresses among us and it will be nice to sit in the sunshine. Hope we don't get too much rain.

Congrats, now you are officially an Elder. Mrs. THI has the progressive lenses too. I notice, though, that she has been taking off the glasses when she reads. I've been wondering if she needs trifocals or a different prescription or something but because I value having my head attached to my body, I haven't suggested it. (Me, I just have reading glasses.)

A week at the beach sounds lovely, but yeah, TOO MANY PEOPLES is not good. And like you, I'm not heavy into planning itineraries. Sometimes when I am in a new city I just like to walk around and explore. Do we need to rend a scooter for you when you're in NYC?

Pussy!

I don't see any improvement when reading. However, maybe if I try reading a BOOK...

Scooter rental, haha. I am more worried about how fatigued I still get. /delicate flower

H-Bomb's got trifocal/progressive lenses too and has for a while, so you're not alone! Mine are only single vision, but really it should be about 1/4" vision because I can't see shit without them.

Those frames look great, too.

I was going to go out of my way to see Harry Potter but I've been hearing from a lot of people that it's not that great, so I won't kill myself over it. I'll just wait for Julie & Julia. Wow, that made me feel really old.

I wish I could spend time with my family without wanting to single-handedly commit matricide. Luckily my siblings feel pretty much the same way. I'm kind of jealous of those families who can play and holiday together though and it sounds like Mrs CB will have fun - pool outside the door! Reminds me of a resort in Palm Springs that I went to last summer which was altogether fabulous.

Love that you needed naps after drinking at brunch - those are the best kind of brunches, I find. Mimosas are my tipple of choice with brunch. A girl can get used to that sort of thing...

ETA: LJ hates me today. Bah.

We can always steal borrow a rolling chair from one of the hotels and push you around the city!!! :)

A week is a very long time to spend with any family. :D.

I had "friends" who used to enjoy doing this in prominent NYC locations. I don't know what was particularly fun about scamming a wheelchair off MoMA or LaGuardia Airport... maybe it was the little flags sticking out the backs? I could totally see [livejournal.com profile] cabenson in a MoMA wheelchair, a sloshing margarita in one hand and flipping the bird at cabbies with the other.

It will probably happen...

I am thinking we may need to start an International Bail Fund for this trip.
