Oh LJ, why you gotta fail so bad?

I do NOT want my LJ world to mesh with my Facebook. FB is for close friends, family, and those people I went to school with who want to be my friend now.

Please take note, dear flist: I will NOT be using this function. I have none of the settings checked and I am hoping that LJ will get their heads out of their vodka-soaked asses and create an opt-out option.

If you are using this function, please say so in your posts and please don't comment on my posts.

In trying to make it easier for non LJ account holders, the LJ team really screwed the peeps with accounts. Bad LJ! Bad!!

WORD. My former high school classmates on Facebook do not need to know about my borderline obsessive fandom fixations and the smutty fanfic I read...or that I use LJ to mock so many things they hold dear.

Well, as long as it's not activated, no worries, right? I'm certainly not going to use it. I am suffering from social media overload enough as it is.

Ugh, I hate Facebook. The whole attraction of LJ was the away from real life sandbox aspect of it. I'm not planning on updating my settings either.

Actually no, unfortunately. Even if you don't activate it for your journal, if someone on your flist DOES, their comments to your locked posts are crossposted with a link back to your locked post AND [if it's short enough] the full body of their comment, which can be used in some cases to ferret out the meat of the locked post.

Ah, thanks for the clarification! OK, yeah, they do need to give some sort of opt-out for that. It's really invasive.

NP on the clarification. I'm trying to make sure everyone on my flist [and their friends where possible] knows EXACTLY what this crap means...

They TOTALLY need to give it an opt-out option across the board.

I've already bitched about it. Hopefully if others follow suit they will at least create the opt-out.

Its interesting... they have clearly made a really huge mistake... but it's intriguing to me that they barrelled into this without working it out. When there are big changes, any changes really, their are always responses to it up on their board that are pro and con... I searched and couldnt find anyone who thought it was a good idea. AND the reason most of them gave was the same as everyone here has... I dont mean to separate out etc etc, but specifically fandom stuff. It is rather as though they don't understand their share of the market at all.

They really don't. It was bad enough when 6A took over, but when SUP took over after them, it just got worse...

*nods* From what I've seen and heard, NO ONE is happy about this. Except LJ, of course...

They had better create an opt out option! Wtf lj - my flist' do not want to hear/see the grandchild-updates crafted for my in-laws! And the in-laws definately don't want to see fandom rants and in-law complaints that my lj was built for!

So do we all need to find another sandbox to play in at this point? I'm already thinking about dropping Facebook because it's so invasive. This latest tidbit just annoys me even more...
