The one with positive work stuffs
Feb. 15th, 2011 04:59 pmA positive work-related post! I don't think I've had one of those since I quit HellLab.
My manager (my boss's boss)is creating a vision forum for our department (laboratory with damn near 300 workers). Part of this forum is a video presentation that discusses one of our key focuses for the year. The sales manager created the vid and we were asked to be the "beta" group and offer suggestions.
It was not good. Really, not good at all. Colored text in a cursive font, too many fancy transitions, no continuity, and most importantly, it did not seem to be in line with the theme of the forum. The music was great, I'll give him that much, but the rest...no.
So, my manager, knowing that I like to play around with making vids in my free time, asked me to take a look at it and see what I could do. I thought about it all weekend, and did a little research. Yesterday I put together a stream-lined, much more professional looking vid with the same music, but a better grasp of what she is trying to get across. I was nervous all night about showing it to her, because I have never shown anyone at work my vids. And I have NEVER done anything for a professional organization, except maybe that pretentious twats anonymous program that
theholyinnocent tried to complete. We almost didn't get out of that one alive.
She loved it! The marketing supervisor loved it! And after changing out a few pics, I will have created my first professional piece. And I am getting paid for the hours I worked on it as well! Manager said that there will probably be more vids for additional forums as well as creating instruction vids for our website. AND she wants my boss to free up some of my time to sit on the committee re-designing our website. I can only hope that this leads to the creation of another marketing job and I can get away from the phones.
I guess all that femslashy vid making wasn't a waste after all :)

Date: 2011-02-16 01:01 am (UTC)See, the PTA wasn't a waste at all! :) If only we'd gotten into the Harper Valley PTA, that would've made a world of difference....
Seriously, though, this is wonderful news and I hope it's gonna be the big break you've been waiting for...something that takes your career in a more satisfying direction!
