The Accident-Prone Tourist
Nov. 21st, 2004 09:53 pmWhat a weekend! Mrs. CB and I just returned from a whirlwind tour of NYC and I have never been more exhausted in my life. We hit Broadway, we attacked restaurants, we visited a museum, we ate some more, drank some more, bought some goodies…it was great! And to top it all off, OSU kicked Michigan’s ass! I was not expecting that. Too bad the Women’s B-Ball team lost the pre-season WNIT…but there is hope for a good season.
First off...note to self: When you KNOW that you are going to be walking a lot on a trip and you are STILL rehabbing a pinched spinal nerve, take your fucking cane you vain, but gimpy bitch! It will save you a night of leg spasms and will allow you to board the plane first!
We began by getting a drink at the Columbus airport. I have realized that if I have one drink before flying I am a bit more relaxed. I should also fly when it’s dark out…then I can’t see how far the plane has to fall to hit the ground. We were on a 737 which is a bigger plane. I can actually stand upright on that one (unlike the crop-duster we flew home one.) Our flight was smooth and the ride from Newark was smooth and quick…I should have known we would encounter problems elsewhere.
We stayed at The Edison Hotel in mid-town. Mrs. CB was checking us in while I was on the cell confirming something (not hookers!). When I hung up and joined her at the desk, the young fellow checking us in looked at me in surprise, then back at Mrs. CB. Then the real fun began:
Check In Asshole: There are two of you?
Me: Yes
CIA: But there is only ONE bed. For the two of you.
Me: [growling] So? WE don’t have a problem with it…do you?
Mrs. CB: [whispering] Oh shit…she has PMS.
CIA: No, no problem. [looks nervously toward manager]
Me: [smiling sweetly] Wonderful. We need two room keys please. Thank you. [turns around and whispers to
Mrs. CB] Assfuck!
Mrs. CB: I’ll write a letter when we get home.
So we settle in our very tiny room with ONE bed and decide to head out for a drink. We wound up taking in a show at the Ha! Comedy Club. We were outed by the only gay (or funny) comic and received a round of applause when we explained that we were in town for our anniversary. He did say we need some diamonds in our commitment bands and ragged on the “red” states that passed marriage bans this year. We headed back to the room and crashed despite the constant wail of sirens and beeping of car horns. Next time we are returning to The Renaissance…it’s sound-proofed AND has a mini bar!
Friday we headed out for Central Park. The sun was shining and it was very mild. Central Park is just beautiful! We got pics of kids skating and playing on the “Alice in Wonderland” statue. We continued through the park until we arrived at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. To be honest, I am not a “museum” person. I went because Mrs. CB wanted to see the Andean Steelwork and Tapestries exhibit. I wound up having a blast. We decided to make it a “Xena: Warrior Princess Tour of The Met.” We spent a lot of time in the Greek/Roman area as well as the Egyptian exhibit. We dabbled in China and Japan before we went searching for food. After lunch we hit the Musical Instruments and Armor/Weaponry exhibits. I really had a great time there, and it had absolutely nothing to do with the teenage Catholic school girls there in their uniforms. Really! As we walked across the park, I was assaulted by a big green SUV. We had gotten ahead of a large puddle of road swill and this fucker ran through it ON PURPOSE!! Mrs. CB was spared, but I was baptized in a mixture of rain, mud, horse manure and piss. There went my good mood. Add in the fact that I forgot to pack my sneaks and I had a bad case of shin splints and multiple blisters. We continued walking in search of the only SVU stop on our visit: 235 W. 78th Ave, Apartment C as in “Charlie”. No such apartment, my fellow Alex Cabot Lovers. We caught a cab and went back to the room. The soiled clothes, including my best “ass” jeans, went to the hotel laundry. Fri night we went to DaRosini’s Italian Restaurant…wonderful!! We ate at an Italian place on our fist date so it only seemed fitting. I had a tomato/fresh mozzarella salad, Chicken Marsala and chocolate mousse. Mrs. CB had some type of salad (I don’t remember), Chicken with Eggplant and Tiramisu. We went to see “Forbidden Broadway: Special Victims Unit”-fucking hysterical! One of the female performers was ill, so we didn’t get to see the parody of “Wicked”, but the show rocked. We walked back through Times Square and people watched for a while before returning to the hotel.
Saturday started out with the scariest waitress in the world. We went to HoJo’s for breakfast and half of the wait staff chose to call off or show up late. So if you asked our waitress for something, she wouldn’t say when she would get it, but IF she would get it. She was just a crusty old broad. I laughed when she told the fellow next to us that he could have a knife the NEXT time he came in. We walked around Rockefeller Center and snapped some pics at the skating rink. We had a light lunch at “Azalea” and then we saw “Wicked.” HOLY FUCK! I could go on about this show for pages, but I’ll spare you and keep it short. I love musical productions, but this is art! The set designs are gorgeous. The costumes and special effects were out of a fantasy world. And the story! Oh! My! God! I am a huge fan of “The Wizard of Oz” and this was just a marvelous addition to the story. Idina Menzel and Jennifer Laura Thompson were better than I had imagined. And of course, I just had to point out the HoYay! between The Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda. Yep, I think I may have a new OTP. Don’t think I haven’t searched for femslash pairing those two. I even found LJ comms. Wonderful story…go see it! I believe both leads are leaving after the first of the year, and there is a tour production in the works.
Sat night we met
say_revolution and LEBCW98 from TWoP at the Mesa Grill. Great conversation, great food, great time had by all. I did my best Stephanie March impersonation and drank half a bottle of Pinot by myself. Mrs. CB had trout.(ick) SR had chili-honey glazed salmon (I really hate fish!) and LEB and I had the spice crusted strip steak….mmmmm, beefy spicy goodness! We joked that Asshat must have been there and heard us snarking on him so our steaks were spiced a little more heavily than I expected. We shared a dessert sampler…chocolate dulce de leche cake is ohsofuckinggod! We cabbed it back to the hotel (dropping LEB off at Penn Station) and started packing. I realized that I had a rash on the back of my neck. It either came from the shoulder rides I was giving the hookers or the hair product I used to make my mane behave. Hey New Yorkers…y’all got cooties!
We flew back today and we were both happy to be home. We love going on vacation, but we hate leaving the boys alone. We have three days of work this week and then Thanksgiving. We are staying home and no one is coming here. Just me, my girl, our cats and a nice turkey breast accompanied by some sides and a few bottles of red. It’s good to be home.
