Mrs. CB and I took in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory yesterday. I was impressed with the FX especially the opening scene probably because it made me crave chocolate throughout the film. Words of advice: Take chocolate with you to see this film so you won't have to get up mid-movie to buy some. Or make someone go get it for you.

Johnny Deep was freaky looking yet notsobad. I got the distinct feeling that Willy Wonka needed to join [livejournal.com profile] childfree but that went away towards the end. The child actors were appropriately annoying(Mike Teevee was my favorite) and Charlie's mom (played by Helena Bone-me Carter) just became top mom on my MILF list. Violet's mama would have made the list had it not been for the atrocious 80's terry-cloth track suit she wore. Maybe if I just think of her without the suit...

Charlie was darling and Grampa Joe was fun. Grampa George? I think he is more my kinda guy. I could see Gampa George and me spending an evening at Hooters. Charlie's mom...did I mention Charlie's mom?

The Oompa-Loompas were my favorite part. Sooo different from the 1971 film. While the original ones were kinda creepy, these OL's were styling cool. I wonder who does their hair? Soundtrack was alternately amusing and annoying. Some of the music stepped on the OL songs and I couldn't make them out. But then again, it may have been the chocolate stuffed in my ears.

Overall, a good movie with some great performances. Special effects were a little less than I expected, but then again, I am an FX whore. I will probably go see it again when the kids get here and it will definitely be added to my movie collection when it comes out on DVD. I just hope the extras include a Wonka Bar.
