You know, it's just not LJ if there isn't drama.
Basically, the option to create free(basic)accounts has been removed. New accounts can choose from Plus (free with ads) or Paid (no ads, cost $20/yr). Supposedly all basic accounts created prior to and including today, March 12, 2008 are grandfathered in.
Really LJ/SUP. Celebrating your first 100 days and trying to sneak this past the users...bad form. If it had been announced upfront and to everyone, it may not have triggered Drama 2008. I personally understand the need to have ads,you are a business afterall, but to not tell people you were removing an account option, and then to try and spin it as "making the signup process more streamlined"? Yeah, don't think so.
