Your Public Service Announcment
Dec. 28th, 2006 12:47 pmThe furnace guy came out to perform the semi-annual check up our heaty-up thingy and apparently we have an increased carbon monoxide level due to a crackied heat exchanger. Our furnace registered 8 on the CO detector, a 9 would have seen the furnace condemned and Mrs. CB, me and the boys in need of a place to stay. Needless to say, Mrs. CB told the dude to shut the damn thing off. We have a CO detector, but not in the basement. I'll be hitting Homo Depot up for one this weekend.
So, after 45 years of service, our crusty old furnace is going bye-bye and tomorrow I will spend the first day of a much anticipated vaca calming the boys as a new furnace is installed. Thank god I had tomorrow already scheduled off. And thank god for Mrs. CB scheduling these checkups or she mat have returned from her sister's to find me and the boys in our eternal rest. I'll be chilly tonight, but will have a valid excuse to drink lots of wine but I will be alive.
So here's your PSA of the day: get a Carbon Monoxide detector for each level of your home, especially the floor where your furnace is located. The life you save WILL be your own.
