I think I personally boosted the economy today by several points. Mrs. CB and I both took the day off and decided to do a little shopping...for ourselves. Who needs a retirement fund anyway, right?

I got a pair of leather hiking boots, some books, including TWOP the Book, a laptop case and a laptop to go with it. I had no choice, I crashed the other one with my large lesbian hands. Got a very basic Compaq with built in wireless at a sweet price and now I can write/read/kick librarian ass all from the comfort of my couch,my basement, or my ergonomically correct bed.

For those of you with laptops, has any one tried a Chill Mat and if so, what do you think of it? This little guy (I think I shall name him Troy Smith) has to last us through my finishing school and Mrs. CB's pursuit of a Ph. D. Anyone using IE 7? How do you like it?

Bo Schembechler, former Michigan coach died today. That is really sad, the game tomorrow is gonna be a classic. My brother LOVED Bo and I'm sure this will be as hard on him as it was for the rest of the family when Woody Hayes went to that big goal post in the sky. Now those two old schoolers can watch Teh Game together.

ETA: I asked for an opinion on an operating system I am comfortable with. I know a lot of other people use different OS's, but I'm not going to change just because someone says IE sucks. If I had wanted to be told how horrible Windows was, I would have been the first to say so.

IE7

I upgraded to IE7 last night by mistake (don't ask) on my laptop only. It gives you the option of changing back but I've decided to give it a try. So far, it's a little confusing because everything is in a different place compared to all the other computers I access, but it's simple enough to understand, and does have a couple of nifty additions. Um, like, access to RSS feeds, and easy to read Tabs, and... um, I don't know yet :)

I think I'm gonna give it a try. It always sucks when you have to get used to stuff again, but what the hell, I'll go for it.

I am willing to look at other browsers, but for now, keep in mind that I share with a techno-tard who can't handle change. Do you know how long it took for her to accept Windows XP over Windows 98?

Yeah, IE is really horrible. I use Firefox, which is 10x better. Opera is also good.

Fortunately for me, Firefox is the default browser on Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake (still haven't updated to 6.1 Edgy Eft, but meh...there's no rush).

Anyway, IE's "new" technology is still at least a bajillion years behind Firefox and some other browses. And it's Microsoft. And Microsoft makes Windoze. Which is shitty. So by the transitive propery, IE = shitty.

Oh, and it's a surprise that *anyone* accepts XP. I have been using it since it came out, and I still don't.

w00t LINUX!

I am comfortable with IE therefore I use it. I'm not going to stop using it because someone tells me it is shitty. I wanted opinions from people who are using IE- if you aren't using it, please don't trash it to the people who are. That's the easiest way to piss me off.

Happy Anniversary, BTW!!!

I've been meaning to write all day. It's been nuts.

I will certainly not say anything, other than, "Way to go!", on your new computater. I will cast no stones at anyone's tech gadgetry purchases for some time to come... glass houses and all that.

GO BUCKS!

Thanks dude!

I hear ya on the technology stuff...I have upgraded one PC. one laptop, and one TV (40" of OSU ass-kicking glory) in the last 12 months. No more techno for me for another couple years.

IE7 is ok but firefox is still better and vista seems comfortable with it if you decide to take teh plunge and Vista up.

The new tabbed browsing in IE7 is nice tho.. since I read your comments and you're sticking with IE. I've had it running stable since Beta 2 of Vista so no major issues to report thus far. The anti phishing filter may or may not coming in handy.. jury's out on that one since I just turn most of Microsoft's security off usually.

Well, speaking as someone who works at MS and uses IE7 every day, I'd go with Firefox until Vista SP1 comes out for several reasons:

1) FF isn't so deeply integrated with the OS, which means that any vulnerabilities are less likely to kill your computer. IE7 is new, Vista is new, and MS doesn't do a great job with brand new releases. The first and second service packs are better. IE7 is "designed" to work best with Vista, so that's why I say wait till Vista SP1 even if you aren't going to upgrade to Vista.

2) FF has more add-ons and they are much easier to manage. IE7 is having problems playing nicely with current IE add-ons and many aren't as useful.

3) FF has more built-in features that have been "in the field" longer.

4) IE7 is still the more vulnerable browser, but it is much better than IE6. If you're using IE6, holy cow, upgrade now! Save your computer from random destruction, girl! IE7 will be better, but not as good as FF 2. For now, anyway.

Lastly, because FF is more standards-compliant (not totally compliant, but more compliant) and because MS REALLY wants IE to be so thoroughly intergated into OS functionality, my prediction is that new features in IE7.1-x will cause more snafus with older Windows versions as well as with Vista. But that's just a hunch, so it isn't numbered.

Since the UI for IE7 is quite different from IE6, it's a good time to change to Firefox. the learning curve will be the same.

Also, you can DL a skin of IE7 for Firefox, so FF will look almost the same. :)
