Sep. 15th, 2006 09:59 amWay back in February, Shed announced that they had sold the rights to Bad Girls to Fox Television, who plans to make an American version to air on FX. Now, I know many of my international flisters are unhappy to hear this, figuring that we Americans could never capture the beauty that is early BG love. To solve this potential international crisis, I offered to cast the show based on Series One. My cast behind the cut:
Helen Stewart- I am torn between two people for this pivotal role:

Renee O'Connor-she 's selling art to finance a movie, so she really needs a job.
My other choice is

Tracie Thoms- cause she's just purty.
Nikki Wade

Andrea Parker...come to mama, YEAH! She can play icy cool, and tenderly sweet, and she has legs for days.
Shell Dockley

Denise Richards. She can do crazy bitch like no one else. And she was married to Charlie Sheen, so yeah,
Sylvia "Bodybag" Hollomby

Nuff said.
Daniella "Denny" Blood

Michelle Rodriguez. We need to keep this hottie actively employed so she'll quit getting arrested.
Yvonne Atkins

Angela "Hoat and Hard" Bassett-Mrs. CB's choice and I agree completely. Her hubby is some big rap producer/gang banger...oh the potential.
Jim Fenner

Teh Hoff- needs no explanation.
For other characters I was thinking along the lines of:
Dominic: Haley Joel Osment- we need to get this little hottie (/perv) refocused on his career and away from teh drugs and booze.
Zandra: Lindsay Lohan-she's already doing the real life research
Rachel Hicks: Eith one, or both of the Olsen Twins
Lorna: Shannen Doherty?-yeah, I got nothing
Sean: The same guy that played Perdicus in X:WP, specially if we go with ROC as HS
Did I miss anyone?
So my question is, who would you cast? And if you aren't into Bad Girls, pick an old TV show being revamped for current times, and cast it.

Date: 2006-09-15 02:23 pm (UTC)Shell, Bodybag and Denny are perfect for sure. I don't like Parker for Nikki, far too femme. Tracie Thoms might actually be better in that role, really. Hm.

Date: 2006-09-15 02:31 pm (UTC)Aw, she could pull it off, she can cut her hair. Mandana did it. And dude....LEGS!!!

Date: 2006-09-15 02:30 pm (UTC)Michelle Rodriguez is a great choice for Denny! And Angela Bassett--YUM!
I think the chick who played Mimi on "The Drew Carey Show" should play Bodybag.

Date: 2006-09-15 03:40 pm (UTC)Tracie Thoms as Helen? Yeah, I could see that. Good choice. But I'd probably watch her in anything because of my Wonderfalls love.

Date: 2006-09-15 04:35 pm (UTC)One of the good things about Bad Girls, when it started, was that there weren't any recognisable names. So Simone Lahbib and Mandana Jones simple were Helen and Nikki and not Gabrielle in prison or whatever. So I'm going to be a total pain in the arse and say they should pick unknowns for the main parts.
Although I'm also going to contradict myself and say I like the idea of Michelle Rodriguez as Denny, although mostly as tough-Denny, not vulnerable-Denny.

Date: 2006-09-15 07:00 pm (UTC)As to your other choices--I didn't know who any of them were except ROC (and you can forget my vote for her), but I think Sharon Small would be ideal for Nikki--or Helen. Or for any damn part!

Date: 2006-09-15 08:38 pm (UTC)Christ, I'd lobby my company to buy spots on FX to keep up the advertising revenue and ensure at least a season's woth of Gabs in prison!

Date: 2006-09-15 10:30 pm (UTC)I take confort in the fact that a few, poor, misguided americans tried to remake Red Dwarf, a while back. And it died in the arse. Here's to hoping.
Now, if HBO were making it, I'd be feeling more positve. I don't know much about this FX. I feel like they'll magically forget there are lesbians in it.
Hah to Huff, though. He's evil alright. And I'm casing Annabeth Gish as Helen Stewart. Can't fathom recasting Nikki.

Date: 2006-09-16 04:58 am (UTC)I'm more worried about FX (or any other station) going the other way, giantessmess- I'm worried they'll be all, "There are *drool drool* lesbians in this *drool drool* show! Plots? Fuck that, let's just see the girl on girl action!" Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind (and it's not like I didn't wish for a bit more in the original series), but the reason I think the original worked was because it was a damn good drama that, oh, by the way, had lesbians in it. I always think of Mandana's comment about how she approached the role. (paraphrased) "She's tough, she's compassionate, and, oh yeah, she's a lesbian." I like that approach to the character, and I liked that approach when it came to the show. I fear any American network won't get past the G-on-G titillation.

Date: 2006-09-16 05:12 am (UTC)That is a good point. I hadn't thought of the titilation factor. Bah. There are too many ways for this to end up crappy.
I liked Bad Girls for the same reasons you stated. The first 3 series (the first 2 at least) had a lot of weight to them. It seemed to be about the characters, the mentions of Nikki's sexual preference seemed very natural in comparison to some of the other shows I've seen. When I was getting into BG, my friends were watching the L Word's first season, which I saw as more of a sensationalistic show (and it's proven my point again and again. )
what was my point? oh yeah - ugh to the remake of doom. At least there'll be more Helen and Nikki to watch, even if it's pod people taking their place. I wonder how far they'll depart from the original (apart from everything).

Date: 2006-09-16 03:15 am (UTC)That pic? Of surly, post-arrest-in-court Rodriguez? Um, yeah. I'd totally love to get fucked up with her even if it meant jail time. I'd do Patron shots out of her bellybutton and blow rails off her ass. Larceny? Sure! Embezzelment? Racketeering? Ok by me! Espionage? Treason? No problem! Yeah, that's how we'd roll.
And I don't even care that she's young enough that I probably could have birthed her in high school. I have no shame, people.
Carry on.

Date: 2006-09-16 03:33 am (UTC)But, if you are going to cast Renee as Helen then I really think Lucy Lawless should be NIkki. They already have experience in the makeout department and they have great chemistry. They could pull it off no problem.
I can't really see David being as big a prick as Fenner needs to be so my vote goes for Steven Baldwin. He's ugly and I already can't stand him.
As far as Yvonne goes....I see that bitch from the Sopranos playing that part. I can't think of her name right now but she played the wife to the main fat guy (yeah I didn't watch the show). She already has mob boss experience.
I wouldn't watch it if Shannon Doyherty was cast. I have always hated her.
But I agree with the rest of your picks.
You should be a casting director girly.

Date: 2006-09-16 10:12 am (UTC)Heh. That would be Edie Falco. I didn't even think of her as Yvonne, yet her co-star Lorraine Bracco was one of my choices for a very HOT Helen! ;)

Date: 2006-09-16 12:27 pm (UTC)Teryl "Helen Junior" Rothery- even looks a bit like Lahboob and has a fantastic rack!

What the bloody hell did you do to me woman?? :sighs: and wanders back to the shiny new season 1 to 3 BG DVD collection with all the tasty RPF action ;)
