Jul. 31st, 2005 07:17 pmI had my physical therapy eval on Friday and it went pretty well. I am working with the same gal that I started with prior to the surgery and she gave me a lot of info on what I can expect my back to feel like over the next few months and why it will feel that way. She also told me that I will no doubt crash and burn tomorrow night because she doesn't think I have the stamina to return to work for an 8 hour day. I think I do-we've been working for a few weeks now to keep me up and active for a good portion of the day and my time spent laying down has been limited to basically evenings and bedtime.
My strength is pretty damn good but she is concerned about the nerve response. I still have a "phantom" pain that feels like I have a slash across the top of my foot. Will the person with the CB voodoo doll please stop already? It's not funny anymore. The hip still flairs up, but it is nothing like I had before so I can deal with it. Pain wise, I am doing pretty well and the pain I do have seems to be more from the surgery area than the nerve. This, I am told, is good. My internal stitches are starting to give and my muscles are loosening up. I do have a stitch poking out through the incision. If you want to see it will cost you a buck.
She canned my home PT program for now because she wants me to concentrate on going back to work. I can still do the pool, but I need to focus on kicking to help my hips become more flexible and to keep me from looking like I have a stick jammed up my ass. The locking of my hip muscles have been a continuous problem since I first pinched the nerve in 2003. My weekend "assignment" was to get up and prepare like I was going to work and be active for at least 6 hours. There were no good festivals and I am museumed out so we went shopping. And we were bad. I got
Charcoal gray hi-top Chucks I always wanted a pair of hi-tops as a kid, but all I had were a pair of navy lo-cut. I am looking for red ones for OSU sporting events and navy ones for old times sake. I think those will go on my list for Santa.
Our neighbors had a garage sale and I bought a brand new karaoke machine. Who's coming to the partay?
Back to work in the morning. Hope I don't murder anyone my first day back.

Maybe I am having my mid-life crisis already...

Date: 2005-08-01 01:55 pm (UTC)I have not gone without a pair of Chucks (either high tops or the oxfords) since I was about 19 or 20. Call it personal style or perpetual immaturity. Or both. But if I had a nickel for every pair I've gone through during that time I'd have a damn good retirement fund. :)
Good luck on your first day back! Let us know how it goes.
