We found out why I was having so much trouble with my leg. It would appear that I have ruptured my disc...again. The doc put us on the fast track and it looks like I will be having surgery next Friday, May 6. I will be having the same procedure as before (laminectomy/discectomy) and my doc even gave me a cute little video/workbook to watch this week. I also got a scrip for Oxycontin...that is how bad my pain is right now. I wonder if I can get her to suck some fat out of my ass while she's in there.

Aw, dude! Bad pain = good drugs. I hope the surgery will go well and that this won't happen again. How does one rupture a disc, anyway?

Thanks! I have degenerative disc disease. The first rupture, or herniation, was 11 years ago. I did 3 mos of PT and it moved itself back into place. The second time was 2 yrs ago...I was putting a pet door in our basement door and stood up wrong-blew 3 of the lumbar discs. This one? We have no clue how it happened because I didn't feel the immediate back pain like the others.

Degenerative disc disease? Besides the aliteration (English major geek here!), that sounds like no fun at all! Poor CB! Will they eventually have to make you superhuman with a spine-o-steel? Can this affect other bones, too? (the degeneration, I mean)

Hope the surgery goes well, and they get you all fixed up good as new! In the meantime, enjoy your good drugs, and if Rush Limbaugh comes knocking, tell him to fuck off, they drugs are just for you! And if he won't go away I'll come kick his ass for you. :)

Damn, dude. I don't even know what to say. I'm sorry you're feeling so shitty. Why didn't they schedule the MRI sooner? I can't imagine going through a month plus of pain only to find out it was never going to get better on its own. What's the prognosis after the surgery? How long are you going to be out of comission? Maybe Pip will get you that stripper now, eh? :) Take care, man.

Thanks H! I don't feel too shitty with the painkillers, and I haven't even taken the Oxycontin yet. I think the reason we took so long in the MRI was the fact that my back really doesn't hurt, just my leg. It has gotten progressively more painful in the last 2 weeks-PT seemed to aggravate it even more. Moral is "exercise is bad, mkay?" I think I am more to blame in delaying the MRI...call it denial.

Prognosis is good as long as I keep myself physically fit. I will be in the hospital for one night. Last time I had this done, I was up and walking by myself 2 days later. I will be off work 6-8 weeks after surgery, and will start PT again. Last time, we had to wait 6 weeks to see a specialist, then 6 more to see the surgeon. Then, we had to wait 8 weeks for surgery. I am really amazed that this is happening as fast as it is.

And I won't hold my breath on the stripper. In fact, I may need to buy her one. She has a long 2 months ahead of her.

Thanks Mikee! Mrs. CB is more stressed about it than I am, but then again, I am looped on painkillers most of the time.
