cabenson: (Question of the day)
[personal profile] cabenson
I slacked off on this as I began my recovery, but I think it's time to get back into the swing of things.

Today's question: Since summer in America=scarfing of hot dogs, how do you take your weiner? Favorite brand, how do you like it cooked, toppings, buns steamed or grilled?

My answer: I prefer BallPark Beef Franks grilled black (or fried in the winter) in a room temp bun with Stadium mustard (the brown spicy kind) and onions. Then I try to kiss the wife. Cause I am ev01 that way.And I prefer them at Clippers (Yankees AAA team) games. Dime-a-dog night is BUUUUUUURP great fun.

See, that depends on when you ask me. When I have PMS I crave hotdogs like nobody's business. I can smell a hotdog BUN at 100 yards.

Regular hot dogs grilled enough to see the grill lines and be popping open, with ketchup and sometimes a little mustard. The best buns are the ones for Chicago-dogs with the seeds. Ohyum.

Also good are Pronto-pups, a breed of corndog with a slightly different batter on the outside that is so much better I don't even have the words for it. Ohsogood. I can't wait for our State Fair here so I can have some again. Ohyum.

Mmm if I am back in Jersey, then it's gotta be quick fried all the way with "special sauce" (still dont really know what it is), spicy mustard and onions.

If I am making them myself, then Great Dogs chicken dogs grilled almost black with sauerkraut and spicy mustard.

Any kind of ordinary white buns will do. (gosh, if I had a nickel every time i used THAT phrase... sigh)

Even better? I've seen what they are made of, I took a tour of a meat processing plant a few years ago. And I still eat them. Go figure. I guess I just have a strong stomach. *shrugs*

I don't care want kind of hotdog, provided they're not those Vienna Beef ones. I find those very gross, for some reason. And I like my hot dogs grilled until they're slighty black (not really black), with no toppings. Except the occasional chili cheese dog, because really, chili cheese dogs are love. But otherwise, I like 'em plain.

(I had a hot dog last night for dinner. And I'm making polish sausage tonight. Hurrah.)

Doesn't matter of the brand, but if it's coming off the grill it has to be burned beyond all recognition. MmmmCharcoal. Then usually with some mustard and ketchup.

If it's a "dirty water hotdog" from NYC, it's gotta be from one of carts up by Lincoln Center. Best hotdogs in the city.

Toronto has Shopsy's which I am totally in love with at 5pm on a streetcorner on a winter afternoon. Just their standard, with a white bun, two stripes of ketchup and one of mustard. Can't beat it for 2 bucks :)

I like 'em with spicy mustard & onions...not raw onions, but the goopy, carmelized kind.

Or a good chili & cheese dawg hits the spot too. Damn you, now I'm hungry!

Now and then, I'll load mine up. But I always seem to drip ketchup on my clothes. And Mrs. CB is not allowed to wear white when she eats hot dogs or brats.

Hungry? Would it help if I told you what I had for lunch? No? Okay.

Chili cheese dogs are really sounding good. I'm making those this weekend. Bring the booze.

Here we have corndogs and pronto pups, they are different things. The batter/breading is way different. Do you have pronto pups, or just corn dogs?

Both, I think. I stick with corn dogs cause I usually get fried cheese on a stic, fried twinkie on a stick, fried Snickers on a stick...I wonder what new "Fried_____ on a stick" we'll see this year.

Mmmm, twinkies...

That's the big thing at our fair, too, stuff on a stick. Pizza on a stick, hotdish on a stick, speghetti on a stick, pork-chop on a stick, steak on a stake (har-har), etc.

I love the state fair... *stomach growls*

But if they have deep fried corn on the cob on a stick DO NOT buy it. Grossest thing EVER. Ew.

"Greek sauce" is just like chili sauce. But you know how it is, Greeks always try to claim that we invented everything...and when we didn't we just change the name to "Greek" whatever :)

They truly are. They're also awful for me, and I know that deep down, but sometimes, you can't help yourself.

A good weiner should not be far removed from a sausage. (I am a true "kraut.") This is why CB and I have to get separate packages.
I prefer beer, cheddar, or jalapeno brats with regular mustard.
If I have a weiner, it has to be like Tony Packo's--with the crispy casing still on it (distasteful to the misses) mustard and sauerkraut.
