Health update

Had my nose scoped so they could look at my voicebox today and we got a diagnosis, Laryngopharyngeal reflux disease and Vocal cord dysfunction. A change of diet, cutting back on coffee and booze, and some heavy duty Nexium and I should be breathing easy in a few weeks. Gonna be a few months till my throat and voice box are fully healed-lots of swelling and irritation in my throat, but finally, after ten months, I can look forward to getting on with my life.

I think we would have picked this up earlier, except I only had rare bouts of heartburn, and it was less than severe. My breathing has been worse this week because my reflux is worse. The cause? Thin fucking mints! I will have to give up all minty goodness, but the only thing I really like are Thin Mints.

Bachelor weekend coming up. Mrs. CB is heading to NOLA for a Nerd Teacher Conference. I have $20 in singles, so you know where I'll be ;)

Huh. Interesting. I checked out the article on LPRD, and then looked up some other stuff. I've been having some of the symptoms for it the last 5 months or so (not any breathing issues, thankfully), but I just thought it was heartburn caused by too much bad coffee while underway. Never felt it in my chest though, just my throat. I may go talk to my doctor when I get back to Yokosuka. Talked to the HMC on my ship, but he just said it was heartburn and gave me antacids.

Good luck on feeling better! Glad you finally found out what was wrong :)

Yea, go get it checked out. Antacids aren't strong enough.

It's a beautiful and warm day here...don't expect it to last tho. I think we'll have at least one more sub-freezing cold spell before spring truly arrives.

Actually, I could handle cutting back on booze, but coffee would be damn hard for me. You're a better woman than I, Gimpy Din. Of course, we'll see how you are in a few weeks/months....
