I’ve wanted to write an entry about this season’s television shows for some time. Now that the writers’ strike is over and we are anticipating the return of our favorite shows, new and old, I decided to write down my thought on this weird year’s television offerings: what I am enjoying, what I am anticipating, and what I am glad is off the airwaves.

What I am enjoying:

Reaper- Just a sweet, darkly comedic look at what being the devil’s bitch entails. I love that young Sam Cavanaugh from SVU’s “Guilt” is playing an older, different Sam in this show. The best friend, Sock, says and does all the things my psyche prevents me from saying or doing. He is my super ego. And Christine Willes as Gladys the sardonic DMV Demon…nuff said.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles-When I first heard this was coming to TV, I was both intrigued and indifferent. I love the first two movies and found the story completely fascinating and frighteningly plausible. While I was looking forward to seeing how they would fill the “missing years” between T2 and T3, I was not at all interested in this Lena Headey person (being a bad lesbian, I only just watched IMAY yesterday). In my one-track mind, Linda Hamilton and only Linda Hamilton would ever understand the character well enough to give an effective portrayal.

Boy was I ever wrong! Lena Headey, while taking a lot of shit for not being as buff as LH1 in T2 is absolutely fabulous! She portrays a strong-minded, conflicted woman who is so emotionally tied to protecting her son, she often forgets to feel for herself. Cameron, the Fembot sent to protect this teenaged, emo-boy John Connor, brings both logic and unanticipated humor to the show as she struggles to become more “humanlike” in an effort to pass and protect her charge.

This show has a decent plot, action sequences that I hope will improve now that the strike is over, strong characters, and did I mention that the entire cast is kinda prettay? And there is Sarah/Fembot HoYay? First Must See TV for me in a long time.

What I am Anticipating:

Army Wives- More Claudia Joy/Denise HoYay please. More down home Roxyisms please. More “Have at it” Pamela scenes please. More hot Joan in uniform scenes please.

And did I mention Renee O’Connor is gonna be on this season…playing a lesbian? And having a fling with one of the Wives? Uh huh, you’re gonna be there too.

Women’s Murder Club- I was all over this show when it first came out. Then a couple over-zealous fangrrls really turned me off the show. The only reason I am interested in seeing the last few eps of this show is to see what the new show-runner does with it. I want a grittier, crime-focused club that occasionally delves into the girls’ personal lives, not showing them banging men on their desks. We’ll see if it makes it to next fall, and whether I will want to continue watching it.

And I want more HoYay of the Jill/Lindsay variety too.

Battlestar Galactica- Nuff said, just bring it back!

What I am glad is off the airwaves:

Just one show here-

Bionic Woman- This is a perfect example of how NOT to reincarnate a show from the seventies. First, your lead actress, while easy on the eyes, was weak in the acting. Also, true fans do NOT like people messing with their olds school canon. You want that 18-45 demographic? Well a lot of that 35-45 group remembers Jaime Sommers as a teacher working for Oscar Goldman at the OSI. That was what I was hoping to see recreated. Would a new version of Miss Callahan have killed you? Where was that “ch-ch-ch-ch-ch” sound when she was running and jumping? And where were the Fembots? I wanted Fembots! You failed me, Berkut Group. The only thing I loved from this show was Molly Price. Someone get her on TSCC ASAP so I can have additional HoYay.
